The modern city of Saigon surprised us: We would have expected as many rooftop bars in Saigon as in Bangkok, but the selection is quite limited. Many rooftop bars in Saigon belong to large luxury hotels and are getting a bit old. Nevertheless, there are also stylish alternatives in the Vietnamese metropolis.
In Saigon (now called Ho Chi Minh City) we visited four bars – thanks to New Year’s Eve. And today we want to tell you about these bars. Are you coming to Saigon and still looking for a suitable rooftop bar? In this article on our travel blog we reveal our tips.
1. Chill Skybar Our favorite in Saigon! On our very last night in Vietnam we ended up at the Chill Skybar and finally found what we had been looking for: A modern, relaxed bar with lounge music, a wonderful view and perhaps the best cocktails in Saigon.
The Chill Skybar is located on the 23. Floor of the AB Tower. The outdoor terrace extends over two levels. During our visit it was very quiet and we easily found a free bar table. However, the Chill Skybar is said to get very crowded at weekends (especially during certain events).
The prices are quite salty, but at least there is a Happy Hour with very fair offers: Daily in between 17: 30 and 23 one of the four cocktails offered costs just 76.000 Dong.
Address Chill Skybar: AB Tower, 76 Le Lai Street, District 1
Dress code: “Dress to impress” ( You are not allowed in the bar with flip flops etc.)
2. Shri Restaurant & Lounge On the roof of the Centec Towers is the rooftop bar called Shri. We owe it to the turn of the year that we were able to get to know the bar. On the last day of the year we were primarily occupied with sightseeing before we had to ask ourselves: where in Saigon can you celebrate New Year’s Eve in a nice atmosphere? We ended up in the Shri Bar.
Although the outdoor terrace is mainly occupied by tables, there is also an area where you can stand and enjoy a drink or two. The cocktails are excellent, the staff very friendly and you get a good view of the fireworks – albeit from a distance.
New Year’s Eve in Vietnam is not a highlight, you know. The celebrations are nothing like those in Europe: you watch the fireworks, wish a happy new year and that’s it. Nevertheless: We had a really nice evening at Shri Bar.

3. Level 23 Wine Bar On the roof of the Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers is the very popular level 23 Wine Bar. From the 02. Floor you have a fantastic view over Saigon, but unfortunately only in one direction. We also don’t think it’s that great that the bar is covered and is therefore more like a loggia than a rooftop bar.
The Prices are ok: A beer costs about 100.000 Dong . A cocktail hits something like 200.000 Dong to book. Our overall conclusion: Quite good – but we agree that this rooftop bar would have a little more potential.
By the way: In the level 23 Wine Bar we originally wanted to celebrate New Year’s Eve. The entrance fee and the fact that you could only have seen the fireworks from inside put us off.

4. Rooftop Grand Lounge in the Grand Hotel A bar in the 17. Floor of a hotel – that sounds pretty stylish, doesn’t it? At least we thought so. In truth, this rooftop bar is more of a restaurant, the furniture of which is showing its age.
The view of the river is great. Namely, the Grand Hotel is very close to the river bank. In this respect, the bar differs from others in Saigon.
Other than that, this rooftop bar unfortunately didn’t really convince us: the ambience seems pretty dusty and there was no mood. Most of the people (there weren’t many) had come to eat, and there isn’t a separate bar area for standing guests. Summary: Not really our case.
