During our time in the Netherlands, we had the chance to visit the pretty little town of Edam. Initially when booking my holiday to Europe, Edam hadn’t been a priority on my to-do list. In fact, I don’t think I had given it much thought at all. However, once we arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by the charming countryside town and was glad we ventured outside the hustle and bustle of the big city.
Less than an hour out of the Dutch capital Amsterdam, this city offers more than just the popular cheese it’s famous for. We were able to discover Edam by bicycle (not surprising in a country where the main mode of transport is cycling) which provided a nice, laid back way to discover the quaint Dutch village.
With its traditional Dutch architecture, quirky little shops, windmills and of course, it’s delicious cheese – the town of Edam makes for a nice day trip if you want to get out of the busy city and relax for the day.
