With the tall skyscrapers, the crammed sweaty bodies on the subway, the never-ending sound of taxi horns and jack hammers, the constant feeling of being in a rush as people flock past you, the peace and beauty of Central Park…there’s never a dull moment in this amazing city full of hope and dream, New York.
It’s no secret to those around me that New York is one of, if not, my favourite city in the world to visit. Each time I make my way through this busy concrete jungle, I’m left with a new favourite spot, a million great memories and of course, a sparkle in my eye and smile on my face. In fact, it’s actually becoming harder and harder to leave the city each and every time. Although it’s tough, I know that hopefully one day I’ll be living in the big city (even if it is only for a few months $$) – it’s the dream! But until I can get my act together and save enough money, a couple of week stints in the most amazing city in the world will have to do.
This time around I came to New York with two of my friends from back home – one who had also fallen head over heels for the city last time she visited and the other had never been to New York so he was still wondering what all the fuss was about. We spent the week based in the Upper West Side just a block from Central Park. With our New York first timer we did many of the common tourist attractions such as Times Square, Central Park and Top of the Rock – not that I’m complaining, I love those places! But we also had the chance to plunge deeper into the different areas such as Greenwich Village, the Meat Packing District and Chinatown, as well as different boroughs rather than just Manhattan including Brooklyn and a brief stop in Queens. It was a week well-spent with old and new friends, and was definitely a memorable place to spend our last week as a trio together.
