Although I am always someone who is keen on discovering new places around the world, I often find myself dreaming of previous places I have been to. There is a quote that comes to mind, “You can fall in love at first sight with a place as with a person.” These words genuinely resonate with me, and I believe that this is entirely true. Often we come across a destination, whether it be a city or a country, that is like no other place we have been to before. There is something special about those places that we will never forget. That’s why for Valentine’s Day, I thought I would put together a little dedication post about some of my favourite destinations around the world. These places have well and truly stolen my heart.
So here you have it, my four destinations I would revisit in a heartbeat!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had a fascination with London. Always. In fact, over the years my bedroom and study walls have been plastered with canvases of London, and my favourite Mary-Kate and Ashley movie might just be Winning London (but we will keep that one a secret, ok?). London has quite a divided following, with many people complaining that it’s a dull place with miserable weather, but even the everlasting grey skies can’t dim my view of London. The old and somewhat ugly buildings are mysterious, and enriched with history and culture. It reminds me a bit of home back in Melbourne, and although the coffee may not be the same, I do fancy a nice cup of English Breakfast tea! I have always enjoyed my time in London and I’ll be back again one day soon!

New York City, USA.
I’ve mentioned my love affair with New York City before. There is one word that accurately describes how I feel about New York City – I’m obsessed. There is just something about New York City that myself and so many others just can’t get enough of! I’ve gone back time and time again, and I’ve still barely scratched the surface of this incredibly alluring city. Maybe it’s something to do with the impressive skyline, the enchanting Central Park, or perhaps that it’s full of so many people trying to live out their biggest and wildest dreams? It’s crowded, it’s noisy and it’s dirty – but somehow it’s still inspiring and glamorous! New York City, I promise I’ll be back soon.

I’ve only been to Amsterdam once before, and it was very briefly back in late June 2013. I was instantly intrigued by the Dutch capital, and it had nothing to do with its infamous city of sin lifestyle. There were many things about Amsterdam that interested me – the charming architecture, the historic & contemporary art, the canals that weave through and connect the city, and the hundreds of bicycles that line the streets. Of course, I was a little curious about the Red Light District and the coffee shops, but there is a lot more to this city than those aspects – this city has character. I hope to go back to explore it more later this year.

I visited Santorini in 2013 and had barely enough time there. I was only there for one afternoon, yes just one afternoon. So, needless to say it’s one of the destinations that I would revisit in a heartbeat! I was completely astonished by the beauty of this place, in particular the town of Oia. The white-washed buildings cluttered and scattered amongst the cliffsides were beautiful and it was probably one of the most romantic places I have ever visited. I would love to visit Santorini again to experience more of the delicious Greek food, the lovely locals and perhaps to see one of those famous Santorini sunsets I’ve heard so much about!

“Travel is like love, mostly because it’s a heightened state of awareness, in which we are mindful, receptive, undimmed by familiarity and ready to be transformed. That is why the best trips, like the best love affairs, never really end.” – Pico Iyer
