After incredible time at Dady’O the previous night and a long day on the beaches of Playa del Carmen, I wasn’t exactly in a party mood, nor keen for another big night out in Cancun straightaway. But this changed instantly as we passed the mile long queues and entered Coco Bongo – one of the most famous and insane clubs in the Cancun strip.
Generally, the normal entry tickets are around $70 and VIP tickets around $140 a pop. But as part of a tour group we were able to get ridiculously cheap discounts on the price – getting the VIP All-Inclusive Alcohol for a mere $70 each. As soon as we made our way through the entrance with two shots and a drink in hand, it was clear that all my previous plans for the night had been completely tossed out of the window, and we were in for the biggest and craziest night of our time in Cancun.
We were led downstairs to our own tabled section on the ground floor, right near the bar on the dance floor with a view of the stage. After a quick look around, I noticed that the club was set up differently to any club I had ever been too – it resembled an arena with us on the bottom floor and levels of people stacked up facing towards the main stage. Before I had even looked back down, there was already another round of drinks on the table – the waiters definitely knew how to get the party going! With a couple of small tips at the start of the night, the bartenders were fantastic – always keeping our glasses full and giving us way too many tequila shots – it really was ‘all you can drink’!
Now for the show, this is where Coco Bongo became not only my favourite club in Cancun but in the world. CNN stated that “Coco Bongo puts Vegas clubs to shame!” – and it did! The night was split into a timeline of performances from different eras – from Chicago, the Beatles and Elvis, to Guns and Roses, Michael Jackson and even a Spider-Man and Batman show! There were impressive ballets dancers, acrobats, ribbon dancers…and the list goes on. In between the performance sets, the lights go down, the music turns up and the dancing goes wild – another positive was the fun music played, and the fact that they never played a complete song so we were never left feeling bored! Together with the constant spray of confetti, balloons and tequila over the crowd, the whole experience blew my mind and it’s going to take something incredible to take that title away from it.Coco Bongo really does provide a fantastic night for its patrons and I could not recommend it more highly! Definitely go for a VIP ticket if you want the full experience – you can possibly find tickets for cheaper with the people selling them outside the club or through the hotels.
